Introducing our Poochon Puppy!

Introducing our Poochon Puppy, Biscuit! She is absolutely adorable and has settled right into family life. I’m sure she will become a regular feature on my blog and I hope to record her progress. I’ve already posted a number of snaps of her on my Instagram, so check those out!

Choosing our Puppy

A PooChon is a mixed breed dog – Toy Poodle and Bischon Frise. We didn’t actually set out to buy a PooChon.

We had considered introducing a dog to the family for quite some time. First of all, we tried to adopt a rescue dog. However, we weren’t eligible because we have a child under 10 years of age. Our only option was to buy a dog. After scouring the internet for weeks, we realised that the price of dogs has increased dramatically since the start of the pandemic.

A relative recommended Kelly’s Kennels. She bought her dog from these reputable breeders some years ago now and her dog is amazing.

I had a look on their website. Their puppies looked well cared for and their prices were not ridiculous (as many were on the pets for sale websites). A range of puppies were available so I made an appointment to view the pups on the same day.

The staff were extremely friendly and invited us to take our time in choosing our new family member. To our delight, we were encouraged to hold and cuddle any pup we liked. They also have individual pens with toys and seats so you can spend time with the pup and see how they interact with the whole family.

As we viewed the pups, we picked up and cuddled a few to see how they were around us. After careful deliberation, we took a beautiful fluffy and playful PooChon puppy to the individual pen. We sat down with her, we played and enjoyed lots of cuddles. At this point, we actually had no idea what breed she was or even if the dog we were cuddling was male or female. We decided to let the dog choose us, regardless of sex or breed. And she did!

We bought a ‘puppy starter pack’ from Kelly’s Kennels which included a crate, food, food bowls, toys, collar and lead and a bed. Our puppy came microchipped, wormed and fleaed and with her vaccinations up to date. She was weighed and given a mini groom before we left.

The service from Kelly’s Kennels was excellent and we can’t thank them enough for our beautiful Poochon Puppy.

Our First Few Weeks with Our PooChon Puppy

We were so excited to bring our new adorable puppy home. One of the first things we did was to decide on a name. After listing and debating a good number of names, Biscuit was the unanimous decision.

To our complete surprise, Biscuit began to use her puppy pads immediately. From day one, she has slept comfortably in her crate through the night. She has been with us for 3 weeks now. This week, we began to take her for walks on her lead. She has taken to this incredibly well, understanding that lead means walkies = fun!
