10 Simple Ways to Drink More Water

10 Simple Ways to Drink More Water

I have noticed that drinking lots of water each and every day has been a great aid to weight loss. In order to notice results, I’ve been consuming 2 litres per day. The problem is, I’m not a particular fan of drinking water, so I’ve had to come up with some pretty creative ways to drink more water.

1. Find the Right Water Bottle

Firstly, to ensure that I drink more water, I invested in a decent water bottle. It might sound silly but I tried a variety of different bottles before I found one that worked for me.

Ultimately, my new best friend is a water bottle with the times of day written on the side. The notion being that the bottle helps you to keep track of your water consumption throughout the day and encourage you to drink more water. I use this bottle throughout the day and it really does help me to drink more water.

Amazon – £10.99

The use of the straw makes it seemingly easier to drink more water without even realising it! It’s also handy to take along to the gym and fits into the cup container perfectly in my car.

2. Filtered Water

I’m not sure why, but ever since my last pregnancy, I can’t drink water straight from the tap. I can taste the impurities. To save money on bottled water, I invested in a water filter. I simply fill the jug every day and top up my water jug with fresh tasting water. I store the jug in the fridge to keep the water cool and crisp.

Argos – £19.99

I use a Brita Filter jug and replace the cartridge every month or so.

3. Boiling water

When I first asked my friend if she would like a brew and she asked instead for a cup of boiling water, I thought she was crazy! I then tried boiling water as a beverage and I now use it to replace some of my regular cups of coffee throughout the day. I especially enjoy a boiling cup of water after meals.

4. Add Fruit

Fruit infusers are readily available now, even from the supermarket. A friend of mine cannot stand to drink plain water, so she adds a different piece of fruit to her infuser every day. You can add lemon, orange, apple, whatever takes your fancy. Or a combination of fruits for that extra fruity taste!

Wilko – £2.00

5. Add fruit to a jug

As an alternative to an infused bottle, make up a jug of water and add fruit. Store the jug in the fridge to keep it cool and fresh.

6. Drink Water Before Every Meal

Before I sit down to eat a meal, I drink water. Usually, a cup full or more if I’m thirsty. The water makes me feel fuller and thus eat less.

7. When I’m Hungry, I drink Water

Thirst can sometimes be confused with hunger. That’s why whenever I feel peckish, I drink a glass of water. If I’m still hungry, then I’ll reach for a snack. This is a great way to ensure I drink more water throughout the day as well as a method to consume fewer calories.

8. 1 Cup of Coffee = 1 Cup of Water

I really love my coffee! Every time I drink a cup, I match it by drinking a cup of water. This has seriously increased my water consumption and makes me feel cleaner after drinking the coffee!

9. Make use of Technology

There are some really cool free apps which enable you to track your water consumption throughout the day.

Alternatively, set your alarm in your phone to sound at an hour or half hour intervals. When it sounds, drunk a glass of water.

10. Ensure you Drink When Exercising

I know it’s stating the obvious, but exercise makes us sweat excessively meaning it’s essential to stay hydrated. Every time I hit the gym, I replenish my body with at least half a litre of water.

I even use water to assist my workouts; when doing a particular weight routine, I take a drink of water after each set. This makes me slow down and take a breather. When I’m doing cardio, I take a drink every 5 minutes. It becomes a routine and time seems to go a lot faster (because I hate cardio!!!).

I love infused water. One of my favorite “additives” is cucumbers. Cucumber water just tastes so fresh!

Remember not to buy single use plastic water bottles! Those are devastating to the environment.

Very true Sean! By using refillable bottles and jugs, I feel like I’m doing my bit πŸ™‚

This is a great post! Last year, I really wanted to start drinking more water. So I bought a 1 liter Nalgene bottle with the goal to drink 1 per day. This may not be much to some, but it’s more than I ever drank! So I have been quite successful, the bottle does make a difference. Ease of cleaning was important to me. I use water from my bottle for my teas (non-caffienated) throughout the day.

This is a great post! I couldn’t find a water bottle with the time on it that I liked for ages, but this looks a good one. I like boiled water with a slice of lemon in it as well, that’s refreshing.

I literally do most of these too. I got myself a Brita filter bottle and have it everywhere with me. It does actually motivate you to drink more and I set myself water goals daily to keep my skin nice. It really suffers if I don’t meet my targets! I completely agree about filtered water!

    • January 9, 2019 / 9:10 pm

My skin has vastly improved ever since I increased my water intake xxxx

These are some great tips. I have one of those motivation water bottles with the times up the sides. It definitely helps encourage me to drink more water throughout the day and has slogans on it too such as ‘keep going’ and ‘you’re nearly there’, to motivate you even further. I also have a Brita water filter kept in the fridge.
