Glamping – Top Tips for Newbie Glampers

Glamping – Top Tips for Newbie Glampers

A few weeks ago we had our first glamping experience. This was truly an unforgettable weekend and perhaps the best holiday we have ever had. Being new to glamping, I wanted to pass on some tips to other newbie glampers offering a ‘checklist’ of things to take so you can make the most out of your glamping experience.

Not only had I never been glamping before, but I have never been camping either! I was at a total loss as to what to bring on the trip.

Some Essential Things To Check Before You Go Glamping!

  • Read all the information regarding the site you have booked on. Sometimes information will accompany your confirmation booking. This might include things like camp rules and what is not permitted on the site, such as camp fires and barbecues.
  • If you’re unsure, ring or email ahead, you don’t want to take up unnecessary space in your car bringing items that are not allowed to be used on the site.
  • Prior to booking, ensure the site has all the facilities you need. For instance, what is the toilet situation? Are there any showers? Is parking available next to your glamping pod?

Things to Bring With You

  • Unless otherwise stated, bring your own bedding with you.
  • Extra blankets may also be needed, glamping pods can get rather chilly, especially in the colder months.
  • Your own cutlery and crockery will be needed if you are planning to eat in your glamping pod.
  • If seating/benches are not provided outside your glamping pod, bring along some deck chairs.
  • The pod may contain a kettle, so tea/coffee/milk/sugar and also cups will be useful.
  • If permitted, bring a barbecue along with you and some food to cook on it.
  • In fact, camp sites are quite often located miles away from the nearest town; make sure you bring along enough food and drinks for the trip.
  • Something quite often overlooked by newbie glampers is water for drinking.
  • Be sure to bring along a deck of cards or some board games, without the luxury of TV, these will keep the kids entertained the old fashioned way.
  • Make sure your clothing is suitable; remember comfort is the key here, think along the lines of wellies, tracksuits/shorts and trainers.
  • We were fortunate enough to have a fire pit at our pod – if this is the case, bring matches and fire starters (and also marshmallows).
  • Blankets for outside! Even in the summer months, the outdoors can become rather cold at night, even when sat around an open fire.
  • Having suffering from a huge amount of insect bites, insect repellent is certainly at the top of the list for our next glamping trip.
  • Torches are extremely handy, especially if there is a long walk to the toilets in the middle of the night!

If you are a newbie glamper, fully embrace the experience; walk the walks, take in the fresh air and enjoy the surroundings. Bringing along the essentials will make the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

I’ve read a lot of posts about glamping and want to go – especially since I’m not a camper type of person. It’s so important to know the facility inside and out. These are very valuable tips – even though a room is provided, I still like that you’re still close to nature. Thanks for sharing!

My friend has described me as ‘soft’ for opting for glamping rather than the hardcore camping!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ive never been glamping or camping before either. Maybe itโ€™s because I grew up in the countryside so it didnโ€™t make sense to me. Or I like my bed. But I would like to give glamping a go. Sounds more fun. Thanks for the tips.
