My 2018 in 12 Pictures – A Year of Family Adventures!

My 2018 in 12 Pictures – A Year of Family Adventures!

It’s only when I sit back and review the year that I realise just how much we have done as a family this year! We love our little family adventures, every year we do our best to explore as much as we can of the UK.

January

For us, January 2018 was a snowy month. We spent much of our time indoors. However, we did get out and about quite a bit! In a bid to spend more time as a family, we explored some indoor activities. We enjoyed so many laughs together at Leeds Armouries. Aurelia embraced her love for Henry VIII! We will be making a return visit after Christmas!

February

My most memorable adventure of February 2018 was a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We had never visited this beautiful place before and so we braved the early spring cold and headed out for another family adventure. The park was absolutely stunning, Aurelia had a fabulous day and still talks about the sculptures to this day.

March

March saw our family adventures increase somewhat as the weather improved and the Firth family road trips resumed. We explored Cumbria in early Spring. Visiting Carlisle Castle and Brough Castle. I love this part of the UK and can’t wait until we return! This picture reminds me of a beautiful, yet cold day in Cumbria!

April

One of my most memorable family adventures of April was our visit to the Jorvik Viking Centre. We had such a fun filled day in York. Aurelia loves Vikings and took the opportunity to have a photo with as many Vikings as possible!

May

We never usually celebrate Brian’s birthday. However, this year, we had a babysitter! So Brian and I decided to book a night away. We opted for the Cumbria Grand Hotel, and we were not disappointed! We have recommended this hotel to everyone and a number of our friends have also booked a romantic weekend away at this beautiful hotel.

June

June saw the start of the English Heritage jousting season! We particularly enjoyed the Joust at Beeston Castle this year. As always, the children had endless amounts of fun at the event and left with many treasured memories. Aurelia made a rather impressive soldier!

July

We moved home in July. However, we still managed to find time to enjoy some family adventures! We tried our hand at glamping in the summer. I will never forget our first glamping trip on the shores of Loch Ness. We have so many treasured memories from this particular adventure!

August

Our annual August road trip took us to the south coast of England, to Dover and Hastings. Yet this month was dominated by the phenomenal GCSE results achieved by our eldest daughter, Kerri! To celebrate, we headed to Poppins Tea Rooms for a delicious afternoon tea on results day!

September

Aurelia and I have very fond memories of our ‘Bee Trail’ adventures through Manchester City Centre. The weather was still rather warm and we had such a good time finding all of those bees!

October

The highlight of Brian’s year was undoubtedly his Manchester City Stadium tour. Even I enjoyed this fact-filled day out! And to see the look on Brian’s face as he sat in the dressing room of his heroes was priceless!

November

The shortage of rainwater this year forced into view the remains of Derwent Village in the Ladybower reservoir, Derbyshire. I have never seen, and probably will never again see anything quite like this! Walking through the remains of the village was incredibly eerie.

December

This month has been filled with family adventures! We’ve been to many different cities Christmas shopping and enjoyed many a family day out. My most memorable family adventure this month has been our annual trip to the York Christmas market.

I hope 2019 brings us many more incredible family adventures!
