Make Reading Fun with Personalised Books

Make Reading Fun with Personalised Books

Those of us who are home schooling our children at the moment are all in need of a boost! Of some assistance in keeping our children motivated and interested in learning. Some children are completely disinterested, some (like my 6-year-old) have a limited concentration span and others still retain a love for school work. One aspect of home schooling we have really struggled with is reading. My daughter, Aurelia is an excellent reader, but reading is one of those skills that requires regular practice and new challenges. Trying to keep her interested in books is a rather difficult task. She becomes easily bored and disinterested.

I was thrilled when I received a personalised book for Aurelia from Wonderbly. Wonderbly has a really unique approach to encourage children to engage with books from a young age:

“we create meaningful, magical personalised stories which let children imagine themselves doing extraordinary things”.

Within the stories that Wonderbly creates, the children are the central characters and the hero of the tale.

A wealth of research has been conducted into children’s relationships with literacy and books in particular. Studies have shown that when the children appear within the books they read, they fully engage with the story. This, in turn, promotes a loving relationship with literacy and ultimately, a desire to learn.

I can attest to this – when Aurelia saw her name in the book, she instantly had to read. The novelty of appearing in a story brought lots of excitement and happiness to her.

How are the Personalised Books Created?

There are a range of different stories to choose from. My daughters love Roald Dhal and I’ve spent many a happy bedtime reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to them over the years. So when I saw Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket book, I knew Aurelia would adore the opportunity to feature in Roald Dahl’s classic tale.

Creating your own personal story is incredibly easy. The website is extremely user friendly and the ordering process was quick and painless. Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket Book contains 38 pages and each is personalised. I simply added some details during the ordering process and the personalised book was created!

I could include the name of the child to whom the book was dedicated as well as another name (optional) who presents the Golden Ticket to the child (I added my eldest daughter’s name). This additional person also features throughout the story. A personalised dedication can also be added on the first page.

Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket Book

Aurelia’s face absolutely lit up when she saw the bright colourful front page of the Golden Ticket Book. She instantly recognised the infamous Golden Ticket. When she opened the book and spotted her name in the first pages, she was thrilled! Her very own adventure in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory!

The book takes us on an adventure through Willy Wonka’s the factory. The child’s name is included throughout and is featured on various sweet wrappers and chocolate bars.

What I love about this book is that Aurelia can enjoy it for many years to come. It is ageless. I can read this with her and even to her now, and she can practice reading it herself as well. This is something she can keep, a personalised gift she can enjoy again and again!

You Are the Best Dad Ever

The perfect Father’s Day gift – a personalised book for Dad! My husband turned 50 last week, so I placed an order for a personalised book for him! Again, creating our personalised book was a quick and easy process.

The front cover features my husband’s name. (I have covered it here as he requested). And we added a personalised dedication on the first page. The book features my husband’s name throughout.

You also have the option to add a spouse’s name (and so I’m featured in the book too!) We could also add up to 4 children’s names. I then chose the best characteristics which described my husband and these form the basis of the book, e.g. reliable, kind, great with kids.

The pages are incredibly colourful and contain some brilliant information! The book is all about what makes Dad’s great, and in particular, your Dad!

Other Personalised Books From Wonderbly

Wonderbly categorise their personalised books in a really useful way. Firstly, you can shop by age. This is really helpful as you can ensure the personalised book you are creating is tailored for a particular child’s age group. The children’s books are categorised as follows: Early Readers (0-3 years), Starting School (3-6 years) and Growing Readers (6 years +).

The early readers books are tailored to suit babies. In the personalised book ‘I love you this much’ children can hear their own name read as part of the story. Books in the starting school category aim to develop children’s imaginations and a curiosity which is essential for learning. Books in this range include the worldwide bestseller ‘Lost My Name’. One book from the growing readers category which is on my shopping list is ‘Where Are You?’ In this adorable book, children have to find themselves in 5 different worlds. I know Aurelia will have hours of fun with this particular book!

In addition to children’s books, there are great range of personalised books for adults too! These run with celebration days, for instance, as I am writing close to Father’s Day, there are a range of personalised Father’s Day books available. The Best Dad Ever Book (featured above) would be the perfect Father’s Day gift! I’m really excited to see what other gifts will be avaliable as we go through the year!

I absolutely love creating and giving personalised gifts, especially books. They are gifts that will last a lifetime! Books are amazing gifts. They are a gift that keeps on giving! It’s really important to encourage children to fall in love with books at a young age. And if you find your child is struggling to engage with books, then try a personalised book. Seeing their name on the page can really develop their love for literature.

I will admit I came into this post a little skeptical, but now I love this idea, especially how easy it sounds to create a personalized father’s day book! I love the page spread of fathers through the ages. πŸ™‚

What a fun idea!! My daughter used to love finding her name in books when she was little. Having a personalized book made just for them makes it so special.

I love the idea of this. I bought my nieces a couple of personalised books a few years ago and they loved them. I didn’t realise they did adult ones too.

Flora had a personalised book when she was much younger, and it’s one that she still picks up and leafs through now, I don’t think the magic of seeing her name in print has ever left her! This is such a lovely idea for any child but you’re right, adults shouldn’t be left out either so it’s great that you were able to get something for Fathers’ Day too – what a fab site, I’ll have to head over for a browse later, thank you for sharing πŸ™‚ Lisa xxx
