Here we are again, Halloween! My 7-year-old Aurelia and I have had lots of fun this weekend enjoying some Mum and daughter baking time! She really wanted to share our Halloween cupcakes recipe and results!
Halloween Cupcakes Recipe
Ingredients
(Makes 12 Cupcakes)
100g self-raising flour
100g caster sugar
100g butter
2 eggs
1tsp baking powder
1tsp vanilla essence
1tbsp milk
Decoration
100g icing sugar
50g butter
1tsp vanilla essence
Melted chocolate
Marshmallows
Method
- Pre- heat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Sift the flour into a a large mixing bowl.
- Mix together the flour and caster sugar.
- Melt the butter (you can do this in the microwave in a microwaveable bowl).
- Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla essence and milk to the bowl and whisk together with an electric whisk until smooth (you can do this with a hand whisk too).
- Divide the mixture evenly between 12 bun cases (we used orange and blue bun cases).
- Put the cupcakes into the oven for approximately 15 minutes. (A good way to test if the cupcakes are ready is to put a butter knife into one of the buns. If the knife comes out clean, they’re done. If some of the mixture remains on the knife, they’re not quite ready).
- Once the buns are baked, allow them to cool.
- Next, to make the butter icing: Melt the butter. In a mixing bowl, mix the butter with the icing sugar. Add the vanilla essence.
- Then, melt the chocolate.
- Place a spoonful of the butter icing on the top of each bun.
- Take a marshmallow and create eyes and a mouth using a paint brush or a cocktail stick with the melted chocolate. Or you could create a spooky spider!
- Leave your “ghosts” or “spiders” to dry.
- Place a marshmallow on top of each bun.
- There you have your spooky buns!!!
This was such a fun activity for Aurelia and myself. Aurelia really enjoyed creating the ghosts. We did go through many marshmallows to try and get the design right, but it was a fun way to spend an hour in the kitchen!
We hope you try our Halloween cupcakes! Happy Halloween everyone!!!
