Gym Clothes for Bigger Girls

Gym Clothes for Bigger Girls

I have recently renewed my membership at the gym (look out for some upcoming features on my weight loss journey). I have pilled on a shocking 4 stones in the past 12 months so naturally, my gym clothes were a tad too tight! The gym seems to be filled with ladies wearing skimpy gym clothes, indeed gym clothes seem to have become rather fashionable of late. When I first started going to the gym around 15 years ago, gym clothes were simply sportswear. Back then, wearing gym clothes for everyday activities such as shopping and taking the kids to the park was unheard of! Now everyone seems to be wearing them! Call me a dinosaur, but I still prefer to wear clothes that are comfortable and practical for working out.

Gym Clothes for Bigger Girls

I’m now in a size 20 (both tops and bottoms) and would rather avoid wearing skin-tight leggings and crop tops! I’ve done some shopping and found some fabulous gym clothes for bigger girls. The clothes would also suit anyone, regardless of size, who, like me, want comfort and practicality.

Trousers

When it comes to gym clothes, you need to find the right trousers. A pair of comfy trousers are essential! Curvissa have an extensive collection of affordable gym clothes. These tracksuit bottoms are available in black, grey, pink, navy, pink and green. They are ideal for someone like me who wants to cover up and to be comfortable. They are available in sizes 6 – 32.

Curvissa – £12.99

Sports Direct have always had a wonderful range of plus size clothing. In particular, they do well to cater for bigger ladies looking for gym clothing. These LA Gear jogging pants are so comfortable. Available in sizes 6 – 20 and in 8 different colours!

Sports Direct – £10.00 or 2 for £15.00

I love Sainsbury’s TU clothing range. I have bought gym clothing from this collection as both a bigger girl and as a smaller girl. The clothes always wash really well and last for years, they’re such good quality. I loved these jogging bottoms so much that I bought another pair for lounging in the house! They’re available in sizes 8-24.

Sainsbury’s – £15.00

Tops

I have a vast array of gym t-shirts. I personally don’t bother with brand names. I go for comfort, quality and affordability when shopping for gym clothes. Nevertheless. I have invested in a few brand name t-shirts and they have been an excellent investment! They have withstood my gym sweat and vigorous washing! Wearing Nike clothing reminds me of my teen years! I love the colour of this Nike t-shirt (available in sizes 8-22).

Simply Be – £14.00

I have headed once again to Sainsbury’s for my gym t-shirts. I found this simple blue t-shirt which will match all of my gym trousers. And because it’s from Sainsbury’s, I know it’s a quality item – sizes 8 – 24.

Sainsbury’s – £12.00

For gin lovers, I found this cute ‘gym and tonic’ vest top from Yours Clothing  I’m not sure I’m quite ready to dare to show my bare arms in the gym yet, but when I do, this will be my number one favourite gym clothing item! Available in sizes 16 – 36.

Yours Clothing – £12.59

Hoodies

A hoodie is an essential gym clothing item in these winter months. I love a nice warm hoodie that I can throw over my gym clothes to go on the school run.

Yours stock a range of hoodies, this one is my favourite. Available in sizes 16 – 40 and in either navy or grey.

Yours – £21.99

For something a little flashy, Dorothy Perkins have a beautiful hoodie (available from Debenhams). This hoodie will add a touch of style to your gym clothing collection! Available in sizes 6 – 22.

Dorothy Perkins at Debenhams – £22.00

I hope this post has helped if, like me, you just want comfortable gym clothes, regardless of your size.

    Aw, lovely post Ashley!
I’d loved seeing your take on gym wear and this is actually all the kind of clothing that appeals to me.
I love comfort and these choices look ideal as they’re pretty stylish too.
Really loving the mix and match element too and its good to see so much colour and pattern rather than plain black.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
All the best with getting back to the gym.

Such a great post! Most gym stuff is tiny now! Why is everything cropped? I’m small but the gym isn’t somewhere I’m keen on showing a lot of skin either. Amazing that so many of these are affordable options too x

I’m so glad you agree, yes even when I was small I didn’t want to show a lot of skin 🙂

So many choices you have put on this post – I love the hoodies you have linked. Sainsbury’s do make really good clothing – I’ve bought a few clothing pieces for everyday wear, and pieces of gym clothing and they are always so comfy and good quality!
