We had the privilege of attending the opening night of the amazing Cirque Surreal at the Trafford Centre, Manchester last night, 18th October 2019. I’d like to give you all a flavour of what to expect from this sensational show!
Amazing Feats of the Human Body
The show opened with a most remarkable act. A performer who showed us what some superhumans can do! Bending and twisting in ways I could never imagine, a man with extraordinary abilities left us shocked and amazed.
Air Acrobatics has been made popular in recent years by the release of the film ‘The Greatest Showman’. Yet the air acrobatic artists at Cirque Surreal do not rely on CGI or have the benefits of continuous re-takes on set. These members of the circus are true artists!
High above us, we saw the most amazing and daring acts from two extremely talented artists.
Another group of incredibly skilled acrobats graced the stage and offered a fun, thrilling and exhilarating show. With seemingly superhero powers, the artists climbed, jumped and swung their way around a high podium. The music, dancing and breathtaking acts had us all clapping and dancing in our seats.
For me, one of the most spectacular performances was the tightrope walkers. Watching the skies, we saw these utterly daring artists perform some of the most incredible tightrope acts. From riding a bicycle along the rope to sitting on a chair tens of feet in the air. We were all truly on the edge of our seats!
The Marvel of Fire
Fire was used throughout the show to the excitement of the audience.
You could hear gasps around the big top as the performers seemingly breathed fire!
Another performer played with fire as she balanced on a huge ball.
We were then treated to a spectacle of limbo dancing. Not only did the performer limbo below an incredibly low pole, but to make the feat even more astonishing, the pole was set alight!
Modern Marvels
Motorbikes offered a modern twist to the traditional performances of the circus.
The Thunderdome was another act which we would have considered impossible. 3 motorcyclists swirled around in unison in the Thunderdome, a relatively small space. How these performers avoided collision is a mystery!
The 2 performers who performed acrobatics upon the giant space wheel displayed sensational skills. Performing somersaults and skipping with a rope while the wheel continued to spin was a marvel one simply must see to believe!
Comedy
No circus would be complete without a resident clown. And Chico Rico, the Mexican clown pulls the entire show together.
Chico Rico will have you roaring with laughter as he interacts with both the audience and the circus artists.
Chico Rico’s interaction with the ringmaster, in particular, is incredibly amusing. As tradition dictates, the ringmaster tires with the circus’ troublesome clown!
A Treat for the Senses
The circus also included some marvellous treats for the senses. The light show included a beautiful display of not only light but also movement.
The ears were treated to the beautiful melodic sounds of an incredible singer. A simply stunning addition to the show.
Popcorn, candyfloss along with other traditional circus treats are available for sale in the foyer.
Aurelia also had her face painted in the foyer before the start of the show!
The show lasted for around 2 and a half hours (including a short interval). It was great value for money! If you would like to book tickets, please follow this link.
Cirque Surreal will be holding shows at the Trafford Centre from 18th October until 3rd November 2019 at the following times:
Mondays to Saturdays – 2.30pm and 7.30pm daily
Sundays – 2.30pm and 6pm
Box Office open on-site from Tuesday 15th October, 11am to 8.30pm daily.
A visit to Cirque Surreal offers fabulous family entertainment during the half-term holidays. Not only is it great value for money, but it will leave the whole family spellbound!

This is a collaborative post, however, as always opinions are my own.
Insanely cool bravery and amazing talent – great pics!

Wow! The performances seem amazing. Do you think my 3 year old would enjoy it? I think all the lights and bright colors would hold his attention.
