About

You found me!

This site was created for all of my fellow mothers, wives, historians, writers, ghost investigators and explorers around the world. My love of all of these labels I pin on myself has inspired me to create this blog and to share my experiences, and so my new and exciting additional label is ‘blogger’. I am still settling into this new role but I will be sharing my experiences as I go to help others. I have had and still live a hectic life wearing many and varied hats at once – this blog was designed to explore all of the different paths life takes us on, and to document the life of a somewhat ‘ordinary’ individual, or someone many can relate to.

First of all I don’t wear expensive clothing, my hair is 90% of the time ‘unsatisfactory’ and my make-up leaves a lot to be desired (both the application of it and the state of it). I have no idea how to contour, or indeed what it is and my body is a tent rather than a temple … it’s a working progress … or as I like to think of it -an unfinished masterpiece! These are things I hope to improve upon as I ‘grow up’.

I am a 32-year-old mother of a teenager (Kerri) and a toddler (Aurelia) and wife of Brian. I am a qualified medieval historian having completed my PhD earlier this year. I’m also a paranormal investigator, a passion I share with my husband and brother, Michael (yes, we are weirdos!) I have been working as a freelance writer for the past 5 years, as well as writing professionally as a historian. My PhD thesis was on gender and the Crusades, so if anyone would like to be bored to tears just mention either of those two words and I will be happy to oblige!

For the past 2 years I have also been working for my brother on his website, Zurleys, and surprisingly our mother hasn’t as yet had to step in and sit us at opposite ends of the room. My true passion is family – I enjoy documenting all of our moments together and sharing our adventures with others. I haven’t as yet convinced myself that having two children 12 years apart was the wisest of decisions. But I believe I’m coming dangerously close to making it all work well – if I find the winning formula to raising a teen and a toddler, or indeed children generally I’ll be sure to share!

To add a few random facts I’m a super Monty Python fan and a lover of J.R.R. Tolkien and all his works. Ok, let me re-phrase that – I’m obsessed with Monty Python and Tolkien (I think I was a hobbit in my past life). When I get a chance to watch the T.V. it’s usually time spent watching paranormal shows (so I can point out where they’re going wrong). Or history documentaries (again, so I can point out where they’re going wrong) – I’m the world’s greatest critic!

I have a terribly real fear of fish (even typing the word then gave me shivers) and I have a disdain for pigeons. Regarding my location – I live in a really sunny, exciting, trendy place called Oldham, near Manchester … PS. I live in an alternate reality so please, don’t all rush to move here!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for visiting my blog, I hope you find it interesting, informative and inspiring. If you leave the blog having enjoyed reading something, I have met my aim. Sending love, happiness and positivity, Ashley.
